Getting in touch

A photograph and a postcode

That is genuinely enough to start. Send a picture of what is worrying you and roughly where it is, and you will get an opinion from a mason - not a form response, and not a salesperson booking an appointment.

Tell us about the building

Where it is, roughly when it was built if you know, and what has prompted you to look at it. There is no wrong amount of detail.

The banker shop, with blocks on the benches and the gantry above
Visiting

Come on a Tuesday, when the saw is running

There is no showroom and there never will be. What there is is a working shop with six benches, and the best way to decide whether you want us is to watch somebody cut a moulding for half an hour.
Boots, and nothing loose. We will find you ear defenders.

Finding the yard

Behind the terrace on Brunswick Place, through the arch. If the satnav sends you to the houses, you are in the right street and the wrong end of it.

Who you will be dealing with

Three names, and they answer their own phones

Eamon Brophy

Eamon Brophy

Yard foreman

Thirty-one years here, apprenticed to the founder. Runs the shop, prices the stone, and is the person who will tell you if your job is not worth doing.

Ruth Oyelaran

Ruth Oyelaran

Surveying and drawings

Conservation accredited, eleven years with us and six before that at a cathedral works department. Everything drawn here goes past her.

Tomasz Wierzbicki

Tomasz Wierzbicki

Head carver

Lettering and enrichment, trained in Krakow and at the City and Guilds. The waiting list for carved work is his diary, not ours.

If it is falling and somebody is underneath it, ring. Do not email.

Emergency make-safe, any hour, anywhere within the two hours. We would rather come out for nothing than read about it.

Metro Stonewright
