Admissions open for 2027 entry

A school that teaches children how to think,
not what to think.

Founded 1974. Nine hundred pupils from Reception to Year 13, on a single green campus, taught in classes small enough that every child is known by name.

The short answers

Class sizes

Eighteen on average, and never above twenty-two.

Why it matters

A teacher who knows every child by the second week can teach them differently. That is the whole argument for a small class, and it is the only one we make.

Results

96% of leavers take a first or second choice university place.

The detail

Three-year average across all subjects, including resits, published in full in the annual report rather than summarised.

Fees and support

Termly fees with a sibling discount, and means-tested bursaries.

How far it goes

A quarter of pupils receive some form of support. Awards run to full fees where the need is there.

Getting here

Six coach routes, and a supervised late room until six.

The routes

Covering the town and eleven villages. A map and the timetable are on the Campus Life page.

Teaching

Small rooms, long conversations

Lessons are built around discussion rather than dictation. Pupils are expected to disagree with each other, and with the teacher, provided they can say why.
  • Setting only in maths and languages
  • Two teachers in every practical lesson
  • Prep supervised on site until six

Beyond the timetable

Forty clubs, and time to actually attend them

Wednesday afternoons are given over entirely to sport, music, drama and service. Nothing academic is timetabled against them, so nobody has to choose.
  • Twelve sports, from rugby to fencing
  • A full orchestra and three choirs
  • Duke of Edinburgh at all three levels

What families say

These are examples. Replace them with real, permissioned quotes before the page goes live - invented testimonials on a school site are the kind of thing people check.

The thing that struck us was how quickly they knew her. By the second week her tutor could tell us what she was finding hard, without being asked.

I came in wanting to do medicine and left wanting to do history. Nobody talked me out of either - they just made history more interesting.

Wednesday afternoons are the reason my son gets up on Wednesdays.

Come and see it on a Tuesday

Open mornings run in term time and last about two hours. You will see real lessons, not a performance.
